Canmore’s mountain trails are a big attraction this month, playing host to some major multi-day sporting events:
- Relentless24 (July 11): An intense 24-hour endurance trail running race held at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Runners push their limits solo or in relay teams on pristine single-track trails under the summer sun and stars.
- Rockies 24 (July 24–26): If you prefer wheels over heels, this 24-hour mountain bike race takes over the Nordic Centre later in the month. It features categories for solo riders up to corporate teams on a course designed to suit multiple skill levels.
- PanAm Whitewater Championships (July 30–August 2): Just outside town in Kananaskis, the Alberta Whitewater Association hosts athletes from across the Americas for high-octane kayak cross and slalom racing.
Arts, Comedy & Live Music
Local venues like artsPlace and downtown pubs host a busy schedule of performances:
- Live Shows at artsPlace: Highlights include the Orlando Cardoso Trio (July 16) bringing Cuban jazz to the valley, followed by a Friday Night Comedy (July 17) featuring Canadian comic Conner Christmas.
- The Drake Screaming Retriever: Canmore’s go-to for late-night weekend music features live rock and cover bands (like Coda Club and Red Mile High) cutting loose starting around 10:00 PM on various Fridays and Saturdays.
- Canmore Folk Music Festival (Starts July 31): Alberta’s longest-running folk festival officially kicks off its multi-day weekend run at Centennial Park on the final Friday of the month, drawing thousands for world-class roots and folk music.
