Situated on the eastern side of Cougar Creek and on the north east side of the valley, the Avens / Canyon Close area of Canmore is very similar to the family neighbourhood feel of the Cougar Creek area, but is comprised primarily of single family homes of various design and size, as well as several duplexes, apartment-style and townhouse-style condominiums, most construction started in the early to mid 1990s.
A great number of permanent Canmore residents call this area of town home, as this area not only offers very close access to amenities such as the Elizabeth Rummel Elementary School and small shops and cafes, but is only a short walk away from the playing fields of Elk Run Park, one of the Town’s fully fenced off-leash dog parks, as well as some of our local specialty shops such as Valbella Gourmet Foods (a great spot to pick up snacks for a hike up Lady Macdonald or a local picnic or your next dinner party).
The single family homes that make up this area typically offer a good amount of square footage as well as a large than average Canmore back yard. Floor plans differ from home to home, meaning that there are a number of options for those seeking the right layout. As with Cougar Creek just to the west, the Avens/Canyon Close area offers many trails for walking, running, or biking that can make for easy access to the mountains to the north east, or the town centre to the south west, making it ideal for those looking for a great family location in Canmore.
Some of the street's in this area include: Canyon Close, Elk Run Boulevard, Grotto Mountain Village, Lady Macdonald Crescent, Lady Macdonald Drive and Moraine Road.
